Munday’s is One of the Oldest Luncheonettes on Long Island
Nestled in the heart of Huntington Village at 259 Main Street, Munday’s has been more than just a restaurant—it’s been a beloved institution for generations. As one of the oldest luncheonettes on Long Island, Munday’s has served as a cultural staple since 1923, offering locals a warm and welcoming spot to enjoy classic comfort food.
The History of Munday’s
Though it officially became Munday’s in 1985, the establishment has a rich history under various names. Originally known as Guckenbergs from 1923 to 1953, it later became Herman & Ray’s, followed by Sovieros, and then the Main Street Cafe. In 1985, John and Marie renamed it Munday’s, setting the stage for the restaurant’s enduring legacy. Cosmo and Louie took over in 1997, with Cosmo becoming the sole owner from 2007 until 2020. Today, Munday’s is proudly owned by Jimmy and Paula, who continue to preserve its nostalgic charm while keeping the menu fresh and inviting.
