About The Local's Choice Awards

Awards Overview

The Local’s Choice Awards from Going Local Long Island is a new, regularly scheduled participatory event which recognizes, celebrates, and rewards Long Island’s local businesses and organizations.

Two separate contests will be held.  We are first focusing on Suffolk County and then will do a similar event for Nassau County early in 2026.

The Local’s Choice Awards balloting and winner determinations are solely done through audience voting.

We are proud to have East Islip’s own Jackson Hall Bar and Grill as our primary sponsor of the Local’s Choice Awards – Suffolk.    Jackson Hall has no influence at all on voting, and business nominations, registrations, or participation.

Ballot nominations and voting

Register Your Business or Organization – FREE!

Before the voting period, Suffolk County businesses and organizations are invited to submit their official information ahead of or during balloting.  This is an opportunity to send along correct spellings, logo, all locations, etc.   There is no charge to register your business – click here!

Voters can also nominate businesses and organizations as well, also at no charge.

What does registering your business or organization do?

  • It makes distinguishing between different businesses, organizations, locations, or separate franchises easier
  • It makes compiling and tabulating votes easier

What does registering your business or organization not do?
  • It does not guarantee an appearance on any ballot
  • Supercede or influence any voting results

The Voting And Nomination Process

You will need to set up a FREE account so that you and Going Local Long Island can track and view your nominations, votes and submissions.  We will not share your info with anyone!

The ballot nominees are compiled from the businesses, groups and individuals with the most write-in nominations during the write-in period. We may combine votes at our discretion. Misspelled or different spellings of nominees are combined manually.

Disqualifications

Nominations and/or votes may be disqualified in an effort to ensure fairness if we identify any use of third party programs, scripts, or AI to generate additional nominations or votes.

Votes and/or Nominees may be disqualified at the discretion of Going Local Long Island for reasons including nomination/voting fraud or eligibility.

Nominees may also be disqualified for failure to adhere to Local’s Choice Awards promotion rules, abuse, or at the discretion of Going Local Long Island staff, publishers, or editors.

Nominees may also be disqualified for revealing results before any embargo date.

The winners are determined from the top vote-getters from the voting period. The Local’s Choice Awards results will list the first place, first runner up, and second runner up in on both the localschoiceawards.com website as well as throughout the goinglocal.li website and its social and media distribution channels.

Voting Results, Notification, and Outreach

Going Local Long Island actively promotes the nomination, balloting, and voting periods throughout the goinglocal.li website, distrubution through its own media channels, as well as through local advertising campaigns.

Nominations

We will at our discretion and availability alert nominees of their placement on the voting ballot. Given the expected high humber of nominees on the voting ballot, we will be unable to contact every nominee, but we will, to the best of our ability, contact nominees within a particular category to be fair to each of the nominees, but we are not obiligated to contact any nominee directly.

We will be taking Nominations from now until September 28th. After that, we tally the top nominees and then move into the final voting phase, which starts on October 14th.

Winners and runners-up will be announced in early December.

Disclosure of a nomination or win, or lack thereof, by a nominee within the embargoed dates, will result in immediate disqualification.

You may also be disqualified from future Local’s Choice Awards campaigns if we contact you as a courtesy and you disclose information (verbally, in writing, or on social media) prior to the embargo end date.
