A beloved local name makes a comeback with a fresh twist
If you grew up in Huntington, chances are you’ve heard of Conte’s Burger Haven —whether from firsthand experience or stories passed down from parents and even grandparents. The original spot opened in 1961, serving up its famous Big Boys, fries, shakes, and more until closing in 2008. For nearly 50 years, it was a staple in the community, and many were saddened when it closed its doors.

Recently, a new sign appeared at 339 New York Ave. in Huntington Village, and it had residents buzzing. With the familiar logo and the words “Burger Haven” displayed proudly, the big question arose: Could it be the original Burger Haven making a comeback?
The Story Behind the Revival
While this new eatery isn’t officially the original Conte’s, it carries on the tradition with the blessing of the family. After Conte’s closed, Mark Salese opened Marco’s Pizza in the original building and kept fan-favorite items like the Big Boy on his menu to honor the history.
Earlier this year, Marco’s closed and the building was purchased by Paul Hansen and his group, who also own The Coop in Farmingdale and six Cactus Café locations. Hansen’s team transformed Marco’s into Paulie’s Pizzeria, which just opened last Friday.
But their connection to Huntington Village didn’t stop there. The group also operated Kick’N Chicken in the village, which closed in late 2023. Still holding the lease, they brainstormed with Salese and, through his introduction to Robert Conte, the idea of reviving Burger Haven was born. Conte gave the “ok” with one condition: the family name would not be used. He even shared advice on how some of the original menu items were made.
What to Expect at the New Burger Haven
The new Burger Haven keeps things simple and classic, focusing on what made the original great:
The Big Boy burger
Crispy chicken sandwiches
Hand-cut fries and onion rings fried in beef tallow for authentic flavor
Old-fashioned milkshakes and sodas
It’s a menu designed to capture nostalgia while appealing to new generations looking for a quality, no-frills burger joint.
