Cow Harbor Day

Northport’s beloved festival and prestigious 10K return September 20–21 with races, parades, boat races, vendors, and more

Every September, the Village of Northport comes alive with one of Long Island’s most anticipated events: Cow Harbor Day. The celebration will span two days—Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2025—bringing together runners, families, neighbors, and visitors for a weekend filled with community spirit, delicious food, and local pride.

The Great Cow Harbor 10K Run

The weekend kicks off with the Great Cow Harbor 10K Run on Saturday, September 20. Recognized nationally, the race has been named one of the Top 100 Races in the U.S. by Runner’s World and is regularly listed by New England Runner as a “winner” with a big-race atmosphere in a small-town setting.

This year’s race has already sold out, a trend that has continued for the past three years due to overwhelming demand. More than 5,000 runners are expected to take on the challenging course, while another 800 participants will join the family-friendly 2K Fun Run/Walk.

Beyond the competition, the race also serves a greater purpose: it is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) event supporting the Special Olympics and local organizations such as the Northwell Health Foundation, Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry, Save the Sound, Northport American Legion Post 694, and the Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary.

Even if you’re not running, the 10K provides a spectacular opportunity to cheer on athletes, volunteer, or take part virtually. Volunteers are always welcome to help on Thursday, Friday, or race day itself.

The Parade on Main Street

On Sunday, September 21, the spotlight shifts to the heart of Northport with the Cow Harbor Day Parade at 12 PM. Starting at the Brosnan Administration Building on Laurel Avenue, the parade marches down Main Street to Woodbine Avenue, bringing together floats, performers, and community groups in a joyful display of small-town pride.

Fun in the Village Park

From 1 PM to 5 PM, Northport Village Park hosts a full lineup of activities. Visitors can browse artisan and business vendors, meet nonprofit groups, and enjoy live music at the gazebo. Food vendors and Newton Shows rides and games add to the fun, while the Crazy Boat Race at 2 PM at the Northport Village Dock brings a touch of whimsy as homemade boats attempt to float their way across the harbor.

Support Local Businesses While You Visit

No visit to Cow Harbor Weekend is complete without exploring the many local businesses that make Northport so special. Be sure to stop by:

James Street Market – A neighborhood gourmet market serving breakfast, lunch, lobster rolls, and a kids’ menu.

Nest on Main – A marketplace filled with local artisan goods, gifts, and home décor.

Einstein’s Attic – A specialty toy store and the ultimate Jellycat destination.

The Firefly Artists – A gallery showcasing local art, handmade jewelry, and a welcoming creative space.

The Wine Cellar on Main– A cozy destination for wine and small bites.

Salted. On the Harbor – A full-service restaurant offering delicious meals and cocktails with a view.
