Owner Hong Liu, who came to the U.S. from China in 1992 to study at Brown University, left behind a demanding Wall Street career to follow her heart — and her daughter’s love of coffee shops — to create something meaningful for her community. The result is Mimi’s Coffee & Tea: a place where people can slow down, connect, and enjoy exceptional drinks and pastries made with care.

Hong’s journey to opening Mimi’s is as rich as the espresso she now serves. After years of long hours in finance, a conversation with her daughter — lovingly nicknamed Mimi — changed everything. Her daughter once said, “Mom, you’re always working,” a comment that resonated deeply. The very next day, Hong resigned from her job, determined to reclaim time with her family and redefine what fulfillment looked like.
As Hong spent more time with her daughter, the two bonded over visits to local coffee shops. They shared a love for the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the cozy feel of the atmosphere, and the quiet connections made over a good cup. Meanwhile, during a trip to the Dominican Republic, Hong fell in love with the bold, smooth flavor of the local coffee — a taste she couldn’t forget.
These two worlds came together in her vision for Mimi’s Coffee & Tea, named in honor of her daughter and inspired by their shared love of coffee culture and global flavors.
