A New Restaurant to Try: Rocco’s Tacos in Huntington Station

Rocco's Tacos

A vibrant Mexican dining experience that delivers on flavor, atmosphere, and hospitality

One of my favorite things about dining out is discovering restaurants that exceed expectations, and Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar did exactly that. Located inside Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, Rocco’s opened its doors in December and instantly made an impression. While the concept originated in Florida, this Long Island location feels thoughtfully designed for the local dining scene.

A Founder’s Return to His Roots

Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar is the vision of founder and owner Rocco Mangel, a Long Island native who grew up immersed in the restaurant industry. After honing his skills and building his career, Mangel launched Rocco’s Tacos in Florida, where the concept quickly gained a following for its energetic atmosphere and authentic approach to Mexican cuisine.

What began as a single restaurant has since expanded to nine locations throughout Florida, each known for its high-energy dining experience, handcrafted cocktails, and bold flavors. The Huntington Station location marks a meaningful return home for Mangel, bringing the concept back to his Long Island roots and introducing local diners to a brand that has already proven its staying power.

First Impressions: Atmosphere That Wows

Before visiting, I imagined a fast-casual taco restaurant. Instead, I walked into a beautifully designed Mexican dining space with dramatic lighting, colorful décor, and an energetic yet upscale vibe. The atmosphere is fun, sexy, and authentic without feeling overdone.

The space pulls you in immediately and sets the tone for what becomes a full dining experience, not just a meal.

Service That Truly Elevates the Experience

We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated promptly. Shortly after, our server Amaya introduced herself, and she truly helped elevate the entire evening. She was personable, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful when it came to navigating the menu.

Hospitality manager, Joe, also made a point to check in on us throughout the meal, ensuring everything was perfect. It’s always refreshing to see management so involved and genuinely invested in guest experience.

Cocktails That Are Just as Memorable as the Food

We started with cocktails, which immediately set a high bar. The White Sangria was refreshing and filled with fresh fruit, while the Rocco Mango lived up to its reputation as the strongest drink on the menu. Made with Rock ’N Roll Mango, Tradicional Blanco Tequila, mango liqueur, agave nectar, freshly squeezed lime juice, aquafaba, and hibiscus salt, it was bold, smooth, and dangerously drinkable.

Both cocktails were excellent and absolutely worth ordering.

Appetizers: Tableside Favorites and Insider Tips

For appetizers, the tableside guacamole was an easy choice. I love any tableside experience, and this one delivered with fresh ingredients and great presentation.

Joe then suggested the grilled wings, calling them one of Rocco’s best-kept secrets, and he was completely right. The Garcia’s Grilled Wings, tossed in chipotle-honey lime BBQ and served with avocado ranch, were cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. That avocado ranch alone deserves a moment.

The Showstopper: Molcajetes

For our main course, Joe highly recommended the Molcajetes, and it quickly became the star of the night. Served sizzling in a traditional lava rock bowl, this dish is as impressive visually as it is flavorful.

We chose the Surf & Turf option, which included marinated skirt steak, adobo chicken, chorizo, shrimp, roasted potatoes, salsa verde, and tequila. Everything arrived piping hot and continued sizzling long after it hit the table. The flavors were bold, exciting, and incredibly well balanced, and building your own tortillas made the experience even more fun.

The best way to describe it? Fajitas on steroids—and a must-order.

You Can’t Skip the Tacos

Of course, no visit to Rocco’s Tacos would be complete without actually ordering tacos. We tried the Camarones (shrimp) and Pescado (fish), both served with pico de gallo, cilantro, pickled red onions, and queso fresco.

They were vibrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. We ordered them as a platter, which allowed us to try the rice and beans as well, both of which perfectly complemented the tacos.

Dessert That Seals the Deal

Even though we were already full, dessert was non-negotiable. The menu had too many tempting options to ignore. The churros were outstanding and easily some of the best I’ve had. Light, never greasy, and perfectly dusted, they were everything churros should be. If you visit Rocco’s Tacos just for the churros, you’re doing something right.

We also tried the Tres Leches cake, which was beautifully executed with fresh bananas, strawberries, and meringue. Other standout desserts include Luna’s Lime Pie and the cinnamon-apple empanadas, both of which are worth saving room for.

Rocco’s Tacos is a Standout Dining Destination

From start to finish, our experience at Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar was exceptional. The food was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, the cocktails were memorable, and the service was truly top-tier.

Rocco’s serves lunch and dinner daily and offers weekend brunch with bottomless cocktail options, All-You-Can-Eat Taco Tuesdays, and one of the best happy hours around from 4–7 PM at the bar. With over 150 tequilas and a lively, welcoming atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for date night, celebrations, or a fun night out.

Make sure to add Rocco’s Tacos to your must-visit list—and whatever you do, don’t skip the churros.
