Mirabelle Tavern

French Bistro Meets Contemporary American in a Cozy Corner of Stony Brook

Some restaurants are simply meals, others are experiences. At Mirabelle Tavern, nestled inside the charming and historic Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, I found an experience worth repeating. From impeccable service to show-stopping food, our Sunday night date quickly became one of the most memorable meals we’ve had in a long time.

A Warm Welcome to Timeless Charm at Mirabelle Tavern

Sunday night is date night in my house, and this week we took a scenic ride out to Stony Brook to dine at Mirabelle Tavern, part of the esteemed Lessing’s Hospitality Group. The setting was something out of a storybook—on arrival, a beautiful wedding was being set up on the lawn, and the cozy igloos were still twinkling outside the front of the Inn. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and led to a nearly private booth that set the perfect tone for our evening.

Our server, Mark, was an absolute standout. From start to finish, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. It’s not every day you get someone who can make a good meal feel like a great one just by being part of it.

Small Plates, Big Impressions

Since this was our first time at Mirabelle, we decided to go all in and share multiple dishes. We kicked things off with:

Yellowfin Tuna Crudo: lemon, castelvetrano olives, basil, pistachio

Crispy Deviled Eggs: smoked aleppo pepper, crème fraîche, caviar

Wild Mushroom Toast: creamed chanterelle & cremini mushrooms, arugula, shaved parmesan

Each appetizer had its moment, but those Crispy Deviled Eggs were in a league of their own. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best bites I’ve ever had. The texture, flavor, and balance were all dialed in perfectly. I’d go back tomorrow just for those eggs.

The Tuna Crudo was bright and vibrant, with flavors that popped beautifully in each bite. The Mushroom Toast had that just-right contrast of creamy and crispy, with expertly cooked mushrooms delivering deep, earthy richness.

Elevated Entrées That Impress

For our second course, we tried:

Montauk Lobster Agnolotti: spiced tomato chutney, lobster “au poivre” brodo, lemon

Pan-Roasted Alaskan Halibut: farro, roasted Campari tomato, toasted almonds, parmigiano reggiano, spiced romesco

The 1890 Burger: 45-day dry-aged patty, Tillamook cheddar, white onion, harissa aioli, sesame bun, house-made fries

The Lobster Agnolotti was as delicious as it was dramatic, thanks to a tableside pour of the broth that really brought it all together. The pasta was light, the lobster fresh, and the flavor combination felt simultaneously luxurious and comforting.

The Halibut was another standout. We both love halibut and order it frequently, and this was one of the best we’ve ever had—cooked to perfection with textures and flavors that felt thoughtfully layered.

Of course, we couldn’t skip the 1890 Burger, a tribute to the year Lessing’s was founded. Crafted with dry-aged Pat LaFrieda beef, this burger had an old-school smoky essence with just the right amount of modern flair. The Tillamook cheddar and harissa aioli were flavor bombs, and the house-made fries were the ideal crispy companion. Mark told us he eats it multiple times a week—and honestly, I get it.

Sweet Finishes Worth Saving Room For

Even after all that, dessert was a must. We shared:

Coconut Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée: sugar tulle

Mixed Berry Tres Leches: dulce de leche, strawberries, blueberries, toasted coconut

Profiteroles: hazelnut ice cream, warm mocha chocolate sauce (poured tableside!)

The Tres Leches stole my heart—rich, fruity, and balanced. My partner, however, couldn’t stop talking about the Profiteroles, especially the decadent hazelnut ice cream and warm mocha drizzle. The Crème Brûlée was light, tropical, and perfect for a warm summer evening.
