The Cinema Arts Centre
The Cinema Arts Centre (CAC), located on Long Island’s North Shore just an hour from Manhattan, is the region’s premier independent and international film showcase. As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit community cinema, the CAC features three state-of-the-art theaters, including a main theater with nearly 300 seats.
Founded by Vic Skolnick, Charlotte Sky, and Dylan Skolnick in 1973, the CAC boasts over 10,000 members and serves approximately 150,000 individuals annually. Its unique programming includes compelling American and international films, restored classics, popular favorites, and cutting-edge cinema, along with an impressive array of monthly film series often paired with music, art exhibits, and more.
The CAC also offers robust educational programming, including workshops in screenwriting and filmmaking, and a Film Arts in Education program that enhances the curriculum for Long Island middle and high school students. The center has hosted numerous in-person discussions and receptions with directors, celebrities, scholars, and critics such as Brooke Adams, Robert Altman, Carol Burnett, and Ang Lee.
Community groups frequently use the CAC as a platform for education and advocacy on issues like the environment, healthcare, and human rights. Through these diverse offerings, the CAC significantly contributes to the local quality of life, positively impacts the economy, and provides a vital venue for fellowship and the exchange of ideas, solidifying its role as a true community center.
