Long Island is about to get a little brighter. Loide & Co., the beloved clean candle brand founded by Loide DiPippa, is opening its first brick-and-mortar store at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead. The grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday, October 11th, marking a major milestone for the local, woman-owned business that’s been spreading light and love since 2020.
Loide, a health care worker by profession and a passionate advocate for clean living, began her candle-making journey five years ago. Her inspiration was deeply personal—rooted in family, faith, and a commitment to health.
The Spark That Started It All
For Loide, candles have always been more than just a source of fragrance—they’re a symbol of peace, light, and hope. But when she learned that many popular candles contained toxins and harmful chemicals, she knew she had to make a change.
Coming from a family where cancer runs deep—her mother, two aunts, and grandfather all battled the disease—Loide made it her mission to create products that people could enjoy safely. Her faith also played a powerful role, inspiring her to craft candles that carry both physical and spiritual warmth.
Even her pets influenced her path. One of her dogs used to avoid entering rooms where traditional candles were burning—a clear sign, Loide realized, that something in them wasn’t safe. That’s when her mission truly ignited.
A Healthier Way to Shine
What sets Loide Candle Co. apart is its commitment to 100% soy candles, something few businesses can genuinely claim. While many labels say “soy-based,” Loide’s products are made with pure soy wax—a natural, eco-friendly, and non-toxic alternative to petroleum-based paraffin.
Soy candles not only burn longer and cleaner, but they also emit less soot, offer a more consistent scent, and are biodegradable—making them a healthier choice for people, pets, and the planet alike.
From Setback to Success
In October 2020, Loide officially launched her business online. But shortly after, life took an unexpected turn—her husband suffered kidney failure and required a transplant. Her business took a back seat while she focused on his recovery.
When he was healed, Loide returned to her dream with renewed determination, telling herself it was time to “go big or go home.” She began selling her products at farmers markets, hosting pop-up classes, and growing her following both online and locally.
Then, when a promising storefront opportunity fell through, fate stepped in. A loyal customer overheard Loide talking about losing the property and said, “I may know of a place.” That “place” turned out to be at 208 Tanger Mall Drive—the perfect new home for Loide Candle Co.
