Long Island businesses can apply for grants of up to $25,000 as the initiative returns for its third year
Small businesses are the backbone of Long Island’s communities, and a newly relaunched grant program aims to help them continue to grow and thrive. Optimum Business and the LIA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Long Island Association, have announced the return of the L.O.C.A.L. Small Business Grant Program, providing financial support to businesses across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Now in its third year, the program will award 40 small businesses with $5,000 grants, with two standout businesses—one in each county—receiving additional $20,000 grand prizes to help accelerate their growth and expand their impact within the communities they serve.
Supporting Long Island’s Small Business Community
The L.O.C.A.L. Small Business Grant Program—short for “Lifting Our Community Businesses Across Long Island”—was created to provide direct financial support to small businesses navigating today’s economic challenges.
This year, the initiative will distribute grants to 40 qualifying small businesses, each receiving $5,000 to help fund expansion efforts, operational improvements, or other growth opportunities. On top of those awards, two businesses will be selected for an additional $20,000 grand prize, bringing their total potential funding to $25,000.
The goal of the program is not only to help individual businesses grow but also to strengthen the communities they serve.
A Proven Program with Real Impact
Since launching the grant program in 2024, Optimum Business and the LIA Foundation have already awarded $500,000 in funding to 90 Long Island small businesses. The program continues to expand its reach by partnering with community organizations, including the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, helping ensure diverse small businesses across the region have access to the opportunity.
Andrew Rainone, Senior Vice President of National Sales at Optimum, emphasized the importance of supporting the local business ecosystem.
“Long Island’s small business community plays a vital role in the region’s growth, and we’ve seen firsthand the difference financial support can make for these businesses and the neighborhoods they serve,” Rainone said. “Through our partnership with the LIA Foundation, we’re proud to help foster an environment where local businesses can flourish.”

Additional Benefits for Applicants and Winners
In addition to the grant funding, applicants and recipients will gain valuable networking and business development opportunities through the Long Island Association.
Businesses that apply will receive a six-month LIA membership, while grant recipients new to the organization will receive a one-year complimentary membership. These memberships provide access to networking events, professional resources, and opportunities to connect with leaders across Long Island’s business community.
The LIA will announce this year’s grant recipients later in 2026 following a competitive application process. Winners will also be honored at recognition events attended by local officials and community partners.
A Milestone Year for the Long Island Association
The program’s relaunch also coincides with a major milestone for the Long Island Association, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026. Since its founding in 1926, the organization has played a significant role in advocating for the region’s economic growth and supporting the local business community.
Stacey Sikes, Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications at the LIA, noted that the grant program reflects the organization’s long-standing mission.
“By helping local business owners, we continue to strengthen our region, create new jobs, and build a thriving future for residents and businesses alike,” Sikes said.
Community leaders agree that the program is an important resource for businesses facing ongoing economic pressures. Phil Andrews, President of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, called the grants a vital tool for stimulating the local economy and helping small businesses succeed.
Luis Vazquez, President of the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, added that the program provides minority-owned businesses with meaningful support during challenging economic times, offering both financial assistance and renewed opportunity.
How to Apply
Small businesses interested in applying must demonstrate how they plan to use the funding to support their growth and expansion. Full eligibility requirements, program rules, and application details are available through the Long Island Association.
