A Holiday Tradition That Shines on the Water
The Patchogue River Christmas Boat Parade is back for its 30th year, lighting up the Patchogue River with festive cheer, dazzling lights, and a rockin’ holiday spirit. On Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM, locals and visitors alike will gather along the waterfront to watch beautifully decorated boats glide through the river, each decked out to match this year’s lively theme — “American Christmas.”
This free, family-friendly event has become one of the South Shore’s most beloved holiday traditions, bringing the community together to celebrate the season — Patchogue style.
How It All Began
The idea for the parade began three decades ago, thanks to Mr. Dick Blakeslee, owner of The Oar Steak and Seafood Grill, who drew inspiration from a similar event in Fort Lauderdale. But in true Long Island fashion, the Patchogue version quickly became “cooler” — literally and figuratively.
Since then, the parade has grown into a can’t-miss event that attracts thousands of spectators each year. From glowing sailboats and shimmering yachts to clever themed creations, every vessel competes for top honors as official judges award trophies from the Sandspit Marina.
The Weekend Festivities
Saturday, November 22: People’s Choice Night
Kick off the celebration early at the People’s Choice Award Election, held at Harbor Crab and The Sandbar from 5–9 PM. Guests can stroll along the marinas, view the boats up close, and vote for their favorite design before parade night.
A free water taxi will run between marinas, allowing visitors to explore multiple viewing spots without worrying about parking. It’s the perfect opportunity to make a night of it — dine, drink, and enjoy live music and holiday vibes at the waterfront restaurants.

Sunday, November 23: Parade Night
The main event begins at 5 PM in the bay, as boats make their way up the Patchogue River to the Sandspit Marina. The illuminated fleet creates a stunning spectacle, reflecting off the water as holiday music plays along to the broadcast on 90.1 FM.
Best Viewing Spots & Dining Destinations for the Christmas Boat Parade
Spectators can catch the parade from several prime viewing areas:
