The Best Date Night Spot On Long Island

Date Night

Date Night is an important element to every relationship that many couples become too busy to have.  The rule is: If you’re too busy for a date night, you NEED a date night!  It’s your chance to be present with your partner and have real conversations that life usually gets in the way of us having.

Making the time is only half the battle though.  Next comes the dreaded conversation of “where should we go?”   This could lead to an argument so to avoid that, we have the answer:  The Wine Cellar On Main in Northport, NY.

Date Night at Wine Cellar on Main in Northport

When it comes to Date Night, I always look for places that check off these boxes:

  1. Good Location
  2. Good Ambiance
  3. Great Food
  4. Nice Drink Selection
  5. Live Music

The Wine Cellar on Main checks all of these boxes and here’s why:

  1. Good Location:  If you’ve ever been to Northport Village, you already know it is one of the cutest, local focused small towns on Long Island and recently was named one of the safest towns in America!  If you haven’t been yet, picture a beautiful harbor filled with sailboats, a large lush lawn park that sits right in front of the water, and a “Main Street” straight out of a Hallmark Movie.  The local business owners are a tight community who are constantly collaborating to find new ways to bring business to the town and go above and beyond for their customers.  Wine Cellar On Main is a great example of this (keep reading).
  1. Good Ambiance:  The second you enter The Wine Cellar on Main, you instantly get a wave of relaxation and comfort.  It’s dimly lit, has dark woods, exposed beams and candles on every table.  There are two tables right in the front windows that are perfect for a secluded spot for date night and great for people watching! They also offer tables throughout with bench and chair seating and seats at the bar if that’s more your thing.  I give it 5 stars for ambiance.
  1. Great Food:  Remember when we talked about how the local business owners in Northport love to collaborate, well The Wine Cellar on Main is one of my favorite examples of this.  Not only do they offer their own menu of tapas, but you can order off Salted.on the Harbor’s menu too!  AND… you can order from Maroni’s menu on Wednesday and Thursdays and it comes right to your table!  That’s dining in 3 local places at once!!  How is this possible you ask?  Owner Lindsay Ostrander is also the owner of Salted which is located right next store to Maroni’s and this is what Northport is all about…coming together.  Did I mention that the food options at all 3 places are out of this world and can make anyone happy?  You can’t go wrong here.
  1. Nice Drink Selection: The Wine Cellar on Main offers sommelier chosen wines by the glass and bottle and local craft beer.  Lindsay has cultivated such an amazing relationship with the top wine reps in the area to ensure the wine served at her business isn’t served nearby.  I live for the Sandy Cove Sauvignon Blanc and have never seen it anywhere else.  If you don’t like wine, wait until the staff picks one they think your palette would prefer and prepare to become a wine-o! Or go for a local beer!
  1. Live Music: What’s a date night without live music?  I would say, boring. Music not only can elevate your mood, but is also a great way to create a memory without having to talk.  Just listening and being present with your partner can create a moment of ease of just being together.  Now, this is all great as long as the music is great right?  Well, The Wine Cellar on Main offers live music Thursdays-Saturdays with amazing local musicians who will not disappoint!

BONUS TIPS:  If you don’t live near Northport, go all out and book a room at the brand new Northport Hotel and make a staycation out of it!  Arrive Saturday afternoon for check in and stroll the local businesses on Main Street like Sand City Brewery, Nest on Main Marketplace and Raices for a little shopping!  Head to the Wine Cellar for dinner and then hop over to the FireFly Artists Gallery which is open late and is home to a ton of local artists!  Sunday Brunch in Northport offers tons of options like Salted.on the Harbor and The Ritz Cafe to end your staycation the right way!

If you’re due for a date night or planning a first date, we hope you take our recommendation and check out the Wine Cellar on Main in Northport and Go Local.  For more information, visit their website here.
