Pride month gets off to a big start in Huntington!
This Saturday, June 7th, at 1:00 PM, Heckscher Park will be buzzing with community spirit as the Town of Huntington and the Town of Huntington LGBTQ+ Task Force proudly host a Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at the steps of the Heckscher Museum. It’s more than just a flag; it’s a vibrant symbol of acceptance, equality, and the incredible diversity that makes our Long Island community so special.
Pride Flag Raising at Heckscher Park
Heckscher Park – it’s the heart of so many of our town’s gatherings, and this Saturday, it’s the perfect backdrop for a powerful message of inclusion. Rain or shine, the show of support for our LGBTQ+ neighbors will go on, right on the steps of the beautiful Heckscher Museum of Art at 2 Prime Avenue. Additional parking is available at Huntington Town Hall (100 Main Street).
Why This is Important
This event isn’t just a ceremony; it’s a heartfelt reaffirmation of Huntington’s commitment to being a welcoming home for absolutely everyone. It’s about honoring the rich tapestry of voices and experiences within our LGBTQ+ community, reminding us all why we love calling Huntington home.
What to Expect at the Flag Raising
Josie Sullivan from Huntington High School will be singing the national anthem as part of the ceremony. But the celebration doesn’t stop once the flag is flying high! Right after the ceremony, make sure to stroll on over to the Heckscher Museum of Art for the much-anticipated opening-day debut of their special exhibition, “All of Me with All of You: LGBTQ+ Art Out of the Collection.”
This is truly a must-see. The exhibit dives deep into the museum’s permanent collection, highlighting LGBTQ+ artists and themes that offer a compelling and often reflective journey through identity, love, and artistic expression across history. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see our local museum showcasing art that resonates with so many.
Come Support and Don’t Miss the Flag Raising this Saturday!
“This event is for all residents of the Huntington township to see that their local government is listening to and supporting the LGBTQ+ community,” shared Phillip Griffin, the Chair of the Town of Huntington LGBTQ+ Task Force. “We invite everyone to stand with us in pride and celebration of the diversity that makes Huntington the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
So, mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and head down to Heckscher Park this Saturday, June 7th. It’s going to be an afternoon filled with solidarity, visibility, and amazing art – the perfect way to kick off Pride Month right here on Long Island!
