The Sunset Club at Tappen Beach is a Hidden Gem on Long Island
I recently wrote an article about The Best Beach Bars on Long Island and challenged our readers to visit at least 1 of them before summer ends. I decided to take my own challenge and started with The Sunset Club at Tappen Beach.
The Perfect Spot for a Date Night
My boyfriend and I were due for a date night and when his softball game was cancelled, we jumped at the opportunity to have one. He suggested we head to The Sunset Club at Tappen Beach in Sea Cliff and I was psyched to cross a palace off my bucket list!
I love a good “vibe” and The Sunset Club delivered that and more from the moment we walked in. There was live music being set up, a beautiful bar with boho style lanterns hanging down, open air flowing through the dining room, and outdoor seating on the beach.
It felt like we were on vacation. The staff were all so warm and welcoming, the breeze coming off the water left the perfect temp in the air and the feeling of relaxation set in quickly. We were lucky enough to sit at one of the fire pit tables and started our much needed date night.
How it Works
Seating is first come first serve and they do not take reservations, but offer a system I can appreciate. When you arrive, grab a table to your liking. On the table, you’ll find a QR code for their menu that allows you to order right from there! No matter where you sit, the bar is nearby so grab yourselves some drinks which can be added to your check or paid for on the spot.
On The Menu at The Sunset Club
We started off with the Chips & Guac which is one of my favorite things to eat on the beach when I travel which only added to the vacation vibes I was already feeling. The chips were fresh and came in a colorful assortment and the guac hit the spot perfectly.
The Sunset Club offers a menu that will satisfy anyone’s palate including fresh seafood like Local Oysters and Clams. We are huge lovers of Oysters and ordered a 1/2 dozen Pine Island Oysters that were delicious. We also ordered the Prince Edward Island Mussels in White Wine Garlic Sauce and devoured those quickly. The broth was so good we found ourselves soaking the bread in it and fighting over the last piece.
They also offer salad options like the Baby Arugula with watermelon and Burrata with balsamic glaze and their Little Gem Wedge Salad. I’m a huge fan of Burrata, but the winner for me was the Wedge because that was one of the best bleu cheese dressings I have ever had! I was tempted to ask for some to go in a container but didn’t want to seem like a total weirdo.
The Sunset Club also offers delicious handhelds like their Lobster Roll, Jumbo Soft Shell Crab Sandwich or the Tappen Steak Sandwich. Main dishes include Steak Frites, Wild Atlantic Salmon, and a Hawaiian Poke Bowl. In addition, I would recommend ordering The Sunset Pappardelle with fresh Maine Lobster tossed in a brandy garlic cream sauce with fresh basil.
Bonuses at The Sunset Club
The Sunset Club is open 7 days a week from 12pm-10pm and offers Live Music every night! In addition, they offer Gooseberry Grove Ice Cream which used to be a storefront in Oyster Bay that closed in 2017 and now offers wholesale for restaurants.
You can order 2 scoops for $8 or 3 scoops for $10 of their constantly rotating flavors. Their highlights include Rainbow Cookie, Cookie Monster, Raspberry Cheesecake, and Toasted Caramel Churro. It’s the perfect way to end your date night or entertain the kids while the sun sets.
Conclusion
The Sunset Club at Tappen Beach is the perfect spot to enjoy a summer day or night! Between the view, the food and the live music, you can’t go wrong. They are open from May 1st-October 15th so make sure to give them a visit before the summer ends! For more information, click HERE!
