Allegro: A Family-Driven Destination for Great Food and Signature Cocktails

Allegro, a new restaurant in West Hempstead, opened its doors on September 26th, with a mission to create a space where food, drinks, and family come together in perfect harmony. Co-owned by Michael De Lorenzo and his son-in-law Daniel Santana, Allegro embodies their shared dream of building a family-friendly spot where guests feel like part of the family. The duo is supported by Frankie De Lorenzo, Michael’s son and Daniel’s brother-in-law, who brings nearly a decade of experience in the hospitality industry as a consultant and advisor to the business.

A Family Legacy in the Making

“I’ve been working in bars and restaurants for years, holding roles from head bartender to general manager,” Frankie De Lorenzo explains. “Opening Allegro was about more than just business—it was a family decision rooted in our passion for hospitality.”

Frankie’s deep connection to the industry runs in his blood. His grandfather owned over 40 pizzerias across 10 states, and his father helped manage them for years. For Frankie, Allegro is a continuation of a long-standing family tradition.

“I have had the privilege of knowing Frankie (Baby bro) since he was 11.  He is as hard working, dedicated and focused on winning since he was young.  When he came to me with his idea and dream for Allegro, it was an easy Yes!  He was always confident enough to try, and humble enough to ask when he needed to. I have no doubt that all the hard work and years that he put into his craft would be successful.  I am extremely proud to see the man he has become today.” said Daniel Santana, co-owner.

Why Allegro? The Story Behind the Name

Choosing the right name for the restaurant was no easy task. After months of deliberation, the family decided on “Allegro,” which holds a special meaning in both music and life. “Allegro means ‘upbeat’ and ‘happy,’” Frankie shares. “That’s exactly what we wanted the restaurant to feel like—an inviting and lively place where people come to enjoy good food, drinks, and company.”

What to Expect at Allegro

Located at 157 Hempstead Ave, West Hempstead, NY, Allegro offers a welcoming atmosphere that blends a cozy sports bar vibe with Italian-American cuisine. Guests are greeted by 11 flat-screen TVs perfect for catching the latest games, and a gaming lounge equipped with tabletop games and a foosball table.

In addition, the true highlights are the carefully crafted cocktails. Allegro boasts the largest selection of Espresso Martinis and Spritzes on Long Island. They offer seven different flavors of each on their regular menu! They’ve also become known for their “Tiny Tree” and Spritz Flights, which allow guests to sample various flavors in a decorative display.

Signature Dishes

Some of Allegro’s best-selling food items include the Frankie Panini, made with skirt steak, roasted peppers, and house garlic aioli, and their Italian Egg Rolls, which feature broccoli rabe and sausage. In addition, their empanada calzones are a unique twist that keeps guests coming back for more.

“Our menu is simple, but everything is made fresh daily,” Frankie explains. “We’ve blended the best of Italian and American cuisine. For example, our Allegro Burger is topped with imported prosciutto, arugula, and fresh mozzarella, giving a sports bar classic an elevated flair.”

Weekly Specials and Events

Allegro isn’t just a place for great food—it’s also a hub for entertainment. From BOGO (buy one, get one) Espresso Martini Tuesdays to half-priced ladies’ nights on the weekends, they offer a range of weekly specials. Wednesdays feature $5 wine and sangria, plus karaoke, while Fridays and Saturdays bring live DJs.

“We have something for everyone,” Frankie says. “And we’re just getting started. Future events include comedy nights, trivia, live acoustic sets, and more.”

The family’s plans for Allegro don’t stop here. By spring 2025, they hope to expand with an outdoor patio area, allowing guests to enjoy the beautiful weather while dining. And with repeat customers already a common occurrence in their first few weeks, the family is optimistic about future growth and even the possibility of opening additional locations.

Give Allegro a Visit & Support this New Local Business

“Our goal is to be a place where customers feel at home. We want to be on a first-name basis with our regulars,” Frankie added. “At Allegro, you’ll always be treated like family.” Allegro is West Hempstead’s newest restaurant bringing passion, fresh flavors, and a lively ambiance. Melissa Farrell CEO
Melissa Farrell has a mission to support local business by "Going Local." As a local business owner herself, she understands the struggles entrepreneurs face when owning a business and is always trying to find ways to shine a spotlight onto them. Melissa started Going Local Tours & Experiences back in 2020 during the pandemic in hopes to bring people back into local restaurants and shops. She created food tours in Huntington, NY that would stop at 3-4 local businesses and gave the guests the chance to meet the owner and hear the story behind the business. She soon realized how powerful storytelling is when connecting people to local businesses and created options with local store owners as well to bring them onto the tour to share their story. Melissa wanted to expand out of Huntington to be able to support even more local businesses and started creating luxury picnics where she would bring local to you! She would find local businesses in the area of the picnic set up and deliver it to you offering ways to support over 3 local businesses at each picnic. This wasn't enough. She wanted to find a better way to help spread awareness of local businesses and share their stories. Enter Evangeline Knell...a woman with over 30 years of broadcasting experience who somehow convinced Melissa to host a 3 day live stream from the Huntington Fall Festival. She had never been on camera before, but working alongside Evie to create the 3 shows, gave Melissa the confidence to take on the challenge. The 3 shows produced focused on the local vendors, the food trucks and the events that occurred at the festival and had a much larger reach than Melissa could ever of done on her own. They soon realized a business partnership was needed and combined their two businesses, Identity Digital which is a production company and Going Local Tours and Experiences to form Going Local Media. Evie and Melissa even formed their own distribution outlet by creating Going Local TV, a streaming platform like Netflix or YouTube, that is all about local businesses, events and organizations on Long Island. There are over 200 videos including their podcast series "Let's Get Local" "Long Island Business Minds" and "Local Business Spotlight" that help spread awareness of our local businesses and Long Island Professionals. They are always thinking up new ways to support local, including this site, Going Local Long Island is a directory of articles on how to Go Local on Long Island. We appreciate you taking the time to read this and for supporting local! Thank you!
