Meet Our New EATS Reviewer: Rob Madden

Rob Madden

Going Local Long Island would like to introduce you to the newest addition to our team: Rob Madden.

Rob Madden is about as homegrown to Long Island as it gets as the eldest son of Northport and Commack natives. He grew up outside Huntington Village in a simpler time that beckons to Hamburger Choo Choo, a TGI Friday’s past-menu that still served Mushroom, Chicken and Mushrooms, Sundays after church at The Rustler on Jericho. Not to mention the $2.99 Fireside lunch specials that still came with a hero, soda and side salad.   Couple that upbringing with Italian grandmothers on both sides of the family that made the Sunday sauce – and you have borne a love of food that has persisted for nearly half a century.

Keeping things local – this father of six (you read that correctly) still resides just outside Huntington Village, maintains his financial planning practice in the hamlet of Greenlawn, and his unwavering love of food has not diminished.

He has collaborated on over two hundred lobster roll reviews with another foodie in his quest for the best in the world, had a sandwich named after him at the famed Mercato Cucina, and maintained a wine locker at Capital Grille.  His ultimate food memory was being over-served by “Nicky the Vest” on a Friday night at Rao’s that ended with him on top of a firetruck in Harlem.  His apologies to the men of Ladder 14 for that momentary lack of discretion.

When Rob is not fulfilling a manifesto of gluttony being a way of life – you might find him wearing a novelty suit or cruising on his electric motorcycle (or more likely both simultaneously), attending a sporting event for one of his kids, hosting the 9/11 Heroes Run in Huntington, or attending a concert or comedy show (he’s seen over 600 by now).

Rob is known for showing tons of support to local restaurants and eateries across Long Island and thought he would be the perfect fit to become the new Food Reviewer for Going Local LI! Rob will now be sharing his food reviews of Local Eats through his column called “The Glutton’s Guide!” Don’t miss his latest reviews under the Eats section starting this week!
